The 'Umami' of Magic Mushrooms
No doubt about it, magic mushrooms or truffles can make for an awesome psychedelic experience. If it just wasn’t for their taste! For some, shrooms have an earthy, metallic taste that’s like eating a spoonful of dirt. Yuck! For others, they taste like eating bark from a tree or stale popcorn. Their chewy consistency also doesn’t help things…
With the taste of shrooms somewhere between "yikes!" and "absolutely awful", the best way to avoid starting off your shroom experience all grossed out is to mask their taste. Some grind them into a powder and stir them into a glass of OJ, or they take them with some hot sauce. But for even better (and tastier!) ways to take your shrooms, find out how you can integrate them into awesome magic mushroom recipes!
Magic Truffle Pesto
A great pesto with strong flavour that does a very good job of masking the not-too-pleasant taste of your mushrooms. Great as a dip with toasted pita bread and/or carrot sticks.
Ingredients
Magic truffles or magic mushrooms (fresh is best, but dry works too)
Kitchen blender
2 cups fresh herbs to taste (parsley, basil, coriander, etc.)
1 cup Parmesan cheese (vegan version: substitute for nutritional yeast)
½ cup chopped walnuts or pine nuts
2 garlic cloves
½ cup extra virgin olive oil
1 tbsp. lemon juice
Pita bread, carrot sticks, tortilla chips, etc. for dipping
Himalayan pink salt (or regular) to taste
Fresh ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
1. Add all the ingredients into your blender. Process until just a little chunky.
2. Ready! Put into small serving bowls for dipping. Enjoy!
This recipe isn’t just super-easy; as there is no heat involved, none of the psilocybin in the truffles will degrade, so you can enjoy shrooms with maximum potency.

Magic Mushroom Chocolates
Magic mushroom chocolates are a great way to consume mushrooms and they taste amazing. If you like mushrooms but have a hard time choking them down, you need to try this recipe.
Ingredients
Chocolate chips
Baking chocolate
Chocolate melting wafers or chocolate bars
Dried psilocybin mushrooms
Special Equipment (Optional)
Chocolate mold or candy mold
Coffee grinder
Saucepan
Bowl or Pyrex measuring cup
Note: The hardest part about making mushroom chocolates is managing the consistency. With the mushroom powder being so dry, the chocolate can get very thick and hard to stir and pour. However, you can try adding lecithin because it increases the viscosity of the chocolate. Otherwise, just be patient and work the chocolate the best you can. A small rubber spatula makes the process easier. Even if your chocolates look a bit rough, they will still taste great.
Instructions
Grind the dried magic mushrooms by putting them in a coffee grinder. Keep grinding until you have a light, fluffy powder.
Melt the chocolate by placing it inside of a container inside of a pot with water in it. For example, you can use a pyrex measuring cup inside of a saucepan with an inch or two of water in it. Make sure you have a wire rack or other spacer under the measuring cup to keep it off the bottom of the saucepan. This makes measuring the melted chocolate very easy.
Mix the dried magic mushrooms into the chocolate by adding a bit of powder at a time and stirring until it is completely mixed.
Pour the chocolate into molds. If the chocolate is too thick to pour, spoon the chocolate into the molds and smooth out the tops.
Cool the magic mushroom chocolates by leaving them on the counter at room temperature. If you cool the chocolates by putting them in the fridge, you might get chocolate bloom which is the sugar coming to the surface of the chocolates. Although it may look unsightly, it is still perfectly safe to eat.
Magic Mushroom Tea
Truffle or mushroom tea is a fairly simple option that can be prepared with both dry and fresh mushrooms. For this you will need a strainer, a pan, a tea bag of your choice, honey or sugar and of course, magic mushrooms.
Ingredients
Strainer
Pan
Tea bag
Honey / sugar
Magic Mushrooms
Instructions
Crush the mushrooms until they become a very fine powder.
Boil a cup of water in a small saucepan over low heat.
Once the water boils, turn off the fire and add the magic mushroom or truffles powder and let it stand for 5 to 10 minutes (if they are fresh mushrooms it is convenient to leave them longer).
When it is at rest you can optionally add tea, sugar or honey for better taste.
Once this is done, the next step will be to strain the mixture and it will be ready to drink.
